SBI Holdings announced last week that its joint venture, SBI Ripple Asia Co. Ltd., signed a memorandum of understanding with Tobu Top Tours Co. Ltd. to jointly develop a blockchain-based payment platform designed around unique, partner-specific tokens. The initiative, which utilizes the XRP Ledger, is set to launch in the first half of 2026. SBI Ripple Asia is a joint venture established by Ripple and SBI Holdings Inc. The collaboration aims to advance tokenized payments across tourism, commerce, and regional development sectors.

SBI Ripple Asia explained in a translated statement: “With this agreement as an opportunity, we will further contribute to the creation of new growth models for regions and companies by developing and providing new solutions using blockchain technology.” The company also emphasized its plan to integrate blockchain technology with consumer payment systems:

Meanwhile, we will utilize the blockchain-based XRP Ledger to issue highly reliable, proprietary tokens and build a system that allows customers of partner companies and organizations to pay for accommodation, dining, shopping, services, and more.

Under the agreement, Tobu Top Tours will focus on partner acquisition, merchant network development, and NFT-driven marketing initiatives, while SBI Ripple Asia will manage token issuance and payment infrastructure.

The companies are exploring a range of use cases, including regional tourism revitalization, sustainable reconstruction of disaster-affected areas, and fan engagement in sports and cultural sectors. Localized tokens could promote area-specific economic activity and ensure transparency in disaster relief donations, while NFT-linked fan tokens could offer exclusive experiences to supporters. The partnership highlights Japan’s growing momentum toward blockchain-based innovation, with SBI Ripple Asia and Tobu Top Tours positioning themselves as key drivers in shaping the nation’s digital payment ecosystem.
