Bullish (NYSE: BLSH) announced on Sept. 5 that its German subsidiary, Bullish Europe GmbH, has secured authorization from the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR).

This license transitions the company’s earlier brokerage and custody approvals into a pan-European framework, granting it the ability to provide regulated digital asset trading and custody services across all EU member states. By obtaining this upgrade, Bullish positions itself to address the surging demand from institutions that are seeking compliance-driven and transparent crypto services. Chris Tyrer, president of Bullish Exchange, highlighted the significance of this achievement:

Europe is the second largest cryptoasset economy in the world and institutional demand for regulated, transparent trading venues is growing rapidly. We believe that our MiCAR approval allows us to continue to meet that demand head-on, by offering the trusted execution that institutions need to confidently engage with digital assets.

The firm emphasized the strategic importance of Frankfurt, which serves as its European headquarters and is home to the European Central Bank. MiCAR places oversight responsibilities with a company’s home regulator, meaning BaFin will remain the supervisory authority for Bullish in the EU.

Marco Bodewein, managing director of Bullish Europe, reinforced the importance of BaFin’s involvement, describing its oversight as central to credibility for the platform’s European operations. The approval follows earlier milestones in Germany and Hong Kong, reflecting Bullish’s broader strategy to expand its regulated global presence. While some critics argue that tighter regulation risks slowing innovation, others maintain that structured oversight builds confidence and could ultimately accelerate institutional adoption, bolstering Europe’s role in global digital asset markets.
