AI company Anthropic, the developer of the Claude series of large language models, has reached a valuation of $183 billion after its latest round of financing—significantly up from the beginning of the year, highlighting the accelerating trend of AI application development.
The company disclosed on Tuesday that it has completed a $13 billion Series F financing round, led jointly by venture capital firms ICONIQ Capital, Fidelity Management & Research Company, and Lightspeed Venture Partners.
Some of North America's most well-known investors also participated in this financing, reflecting a surge in institutional interest in artificial intelligence as a disruptive technology.
Supporters include Altimeter, Baillie Gifford, Coatue, Goldman Sachs Growth Equity, Jane Street, T. Rowe Price Investment Management, the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, and funds under BlackRock.
The $183 billion valuation is more than three times higher than the reported value when Anthropic completed a $2 billion financing round in January. Although the company is still working to commercialize its technology, its revenue run rate has exceeded $5 billion, and it currently has over 300,000 enterprise customers—data that helps justify its soaring valuation.
Anthropic has limited connections to the blockchain industry, but one of its earliest supporters was FTX, the cryptocurrency exchange founded by Sam Bankman-Fried, which has since collapsed. FTX acquired a 7.8% stake in Anthropic in 2022. After its collapse, FTX began selling its shares in the AI development company in 2024.
The Claude series from Anthropic is designed as a general AI assistant, with applications ranging from knowledge management, market analysis, content creation, programming, to research.
In the cryptocurrency industry, Claude has been adopted by some of the largest exchanges. Coinbase uses Claude to enhance customer support and internal operations, while Crypto.com relies on the Claude 3 model through Amazon Bedrock to provide real-time sentiment analysis for global markets.
Anthropic stated that Coinbase's deployment of Claude enables the exchange to serve millions of users, processing thousands of messages per hour and significantly reducing customer service handling times.
Some industry observers believe that artificial intelligence will play a foundational role in the cryptocurrency sector, providing one of the few viable ways for businesses to ensure compliance in a market characterized by continuous, round-the-clock trading.
In an opinion piece for Cointelegraph, Konstantin Anissimov, CEO of Currency.com, described the "gradual shift from human-centered workflows to embedded, AI-driven decision systems," adding:
