Veteran cryptocurrency journalist Jon Rice has returned to serve as the editor-in-chief of Cointelegraph, having previously held leadership roles in the news departments of three professional publications.
Rice held this position during the COVID-19 pandemic from 2020 to 2021. Prior to that, he created and launched Cointelegraph Magazine, a long-form publication. He then transitioned to become the editor-in-chief of Blockworks. In 2017, Rice co-founded Crypto Briefing and became one of the founding members of the Cryptocurrency Journalists and Researchers Association.
Rice stated that one of the key reasons for his return to this role is his desire to bring a fresh editorial and content vision to Cointelegraph.
In describing his vision for Cointelegraph's multi-platform content, Rice noted, "Technology itself is neutral, and this fact is rapidly being communicated to high-level governments around the world. However, there is a distinction between good and evil among people. Our platform's goal is to highlight the opportunities presented by the active use of Web3 technology while holding bad actors accountable."
Rice also mentioned that despite the new challenges faced by the cryptocurrency media as a whole, such as the rise of AI and mainstream attention, Cointelegraph's successful model has laid a solid foundation for the company's future.
"Under the current management, Cointelegraph has clarified its strategy and built a series of successful derivative businesses, including Decentralization Guardians and Formula agency."
Rice continued, "Building a business that can successfully support a serious editorial department is not easy. However, with Cointelegraph's influence and institutional knowledge, along with the increasing importance of cryptocurrency to more and more people globally, this brand has a bright future."
Cointelegraph CEO Yana Prikhodchenko stated, "Jon is one of the most experienced and credible individuals in the cryptocurrency industry. He has proven himself capable of managing the expansion of a large news editorial department and can recruit and retain outstanding talent. I firmly believe he will quickly make a positive impact and help us achieve our ambitious goals for the future."
Additionally, Rice's first move upon taking office is to promote current editorial head Geraint Price to deputy editor. "Geraint has established processes that significantly enhance Cointelegraph's quality control through the recruitment and training of excellent journalists, laying the groundwork for the rapid development of our reporting. He is an outstanding journalist and editor who will play a crucial role in the ongoing development of cryptocurrency media."
