In the world of investment, any understanding that hasn't been put into action is a false proposition.

This morning, an older brother whom I hadn't contacted in a long time sent me a message, stirring up memories of a past event.

This brother is older than me and was a colleague I met when I joined a company in 2019.

He is quite talkative, and we would occasionally chat at the company. His values are firmly rooted in the Austrian school of economics; he believes in the market, the rule of law, small government, and that power needs to be constrained.

Because I understood his values, I would intentionally and unintentionally discuss some insights about crypto assets with him.

Otherwise, based on my habits, I definitely wouldn't talk about these topics with people who have different values, nor would I proactively discuss crypto assets with those I don't know well.

From our conversations, it was clear that the brother was in good financial shape and had a positive outlook on Bitcoin. He was somewhat inclined to allocate some crypto assets but felt that his understanding of them was somewhat superficial.

He sensed that I had a bit more knowledge about crypto assets than he did, so he specifically sought me out for an in-depth face-to-face discussion.

Records on WeChat show that this exchange took place in August 2021. During that conversation, I shared my views on Bitcoin, Ethereum, and others. He kept up with my thoughts quickly, listening while also expressing his ideas—many of which were quite insightful.

What impressed me the most was that after I mentioned NFTs and CryptoPunks, which he had never heard of before, he immediately said that the future of CryptoPunks was incredible and would definitely be a benchmark for art in the digital age. Hearing him say that, I deliberately responded with a popular viewpoint at the time: some people say it's just a picture and worthless. He immediately countered, saying those people don't understand its value and significance.

In my years of experience, I can count on one hand the number of people who can grasp the essence of crypto assets in such a short time. Therefore, whenever I encounter such individuals, I can't help but feel admiration and respect.

When it came to the specifics of buying Bitcoin and Ethereum, even though the brother was quite wealthy and could easily afford them, he still felt that the prices at that time were already relatively high and that buying wouldn't be cost-effective.

I agreed with his perspective, but I also emphasized to him: while it is possible to wait for the prices to drop before buying, that is just my speculation; I cannot predict whether they will drop in the future or how much would be appropriate to buy.

The brother wanted to wait but asked me to inform him when I thought it was worth buying.

I took this reminder seriously and have kept it in mind ever since, feeling that it was not only a commitment to uphold but also a mutual appreciation for the brother's insight.

WeChat records show that on May 16, 2022, I sent a message to the brother saying:

"Bitcoin at $35,000 and Ethereum below $2,500 can start dollar-cost averaging, but this price may still drop significantly, possibly by 50% or more. However, looking at the long term, I think it’s fine."

The brother quickly replied to express his gratitude.

After that, due to work reasons, I rarely went back to that company, and the brother also sought new opportunities, so we stopped communicating on WeChat.

But last night, the brother suddenly sent me a message saying:

It's a pity he didn't buy, and he asked if Bitcoin and Ethereum are still worth buying now. If so, would the current prices be too high?

I only saw this message this morning.

When I saw this message, my mind suddenly froze, and I didn't know how to respond to the brother—perhaps it was a slight sense of loss, perhaps memories of the past surged in my heart, or perhaps it was a bit hard to believe.

After calming down a bit, I replied to the brother:

"I wouldn't buy these two coins right now; I would only hold them. The short-term outlook isn't good, but looking at it with a 10-year perspective, I believe Bitcoin will reach $1 million in the future…"

Soon, the brother replied, expressing his gratitude and also saying:

"If you think it's a good time to buy, could you remind me?"

Seeing this familiar reminder, I readily agreed.

But I have a premonition that the brother will send me similar reminders again in the future.
