A legacy Pay-to-Public-Key-Hash (P2PKH) address known as “15MZvK” moved the entire 3,963 BTC haul after sitting idle for 14 years, 6 months, and 11 days. The stash was transferred to a modern Pay-to-Witness-Public-Key-Hash (P2WPKH) address, which currently holds the bulk of the coins. A separate 450 BTC chunk was redirected to another unknown P2WPKH wallet.

This latest awakening traces back to Jan. 13, 2011—the creation date of the original wallet—and follows the blockbuster 80,000 BTC transfer on July 4. That larger trove, worth $9.4 billion, was later attributed to Galaxy Digital per Arkham’s tagged wallet database. Today’s transaction, locked in at block height 906952, came with a high fee rate of 41,190 sats, or $48.79, to push the $470 million.

Interestingly, the sender shelled out six times the average fee rate to move the 3,963 BTC. Before releasing the main cache, the whale sent a trial amount of ‎0.00143280 BTC in block 906950. The 15MZvK wallet accumulated its entire bitcoin balance over just three days—between Jan. 13 and Jan. 15, 2011—starting with a 100 BTC transfer, followed by a 900 BTC move, and several other incoming transactions.

Back then, bitcoin was trading hands for just $0.40 apiece in early 2011, putting the entire hoard’s initial value at roughly $1,585. Fast-forward to today, and that stash has ballooned to a gain of 29,637,590%—a jaw-dropping leap for coins that sat untouched for more than a decade.
