Swiss cryptocurrency-friendly financial bank AMINA Bank announced its support for Ripple's newly launched USD stablecoin RLUSD, becoming the first global bank to offer custody and trading services for this currency. The service will initially be available to institutional clients and professional investors, with plans for further expansion in the coming months. AMINA Bank stated that its goal is to connect traditional banking with cryptocurrency financial infrastructure, and it has established regulated business hubs in Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Abu Dhabi.
Ripple has submitted an application for a national bank charter to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). RLUSD is currently regulated by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS). A national trust bank charter would also bring RLUSD under OCC's regulatory oversight. If approved, Ripple would achieve dual state and federal regulation for the stablecoin RLUSD. Additionally, its subsidiary Standard Custody has also applied for a Federal Reserve master account, aiming to directly custody RLUSD reserves. If approved, this account would allow Ripple to directly custody reserves at the Federal Reserve and issue and redeem stablecoins outside of normal banking hours.
KBC Bank, one of Belgium's largest financial institutions, is preparing to allow its customers to invest in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum through its Bolero subsidiary. The company plans to launch investments on its platform later this year. KBC expects this product to receive regulatory approval in the fall.
