The technology company Meta has hired Trapit Bansal, a former core researcher at the artificial intelligence company OpenAI, who played a key role in developing the company's o1 reasoning AI model.
According to TechCrunch, Bansal is the latest former OpenAI researcher to join the Meta team, following Lucas Beyer, Alexander Kolesnikov, and Xiaohua Zhai.
These hires are part of Meta's push to expand its AI business and cultivate intelligence by training AI in real-world scenarios, thereby fundamentally transforming its reasoning model capabilities. Meta's Chief AI Scientist Yann LeCun previously stated:
Earlier this year, as advancements in artificial intelligence became a top priority for governments around the world seeking to win the international AI race, Meta's AI development gained more attention.
In June, Meta acquired a 49% stake in data labeling company Scale AI, which provides services for AI platforms, valued at nearly $15 billion.
As part of the acquisition, Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang will join Meta to collaborate on further AI development.
The parent company of Facebook also signed a 20-year nuclear energy deal with power supplier Constellation Energy, which will provide 1.1 gigawatts of power to support its AI data centers and infrastructure.
According to an announcement on June 3, this energy will come from Constellation's Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois, USA, with delivery set to begin in 2027.
In May, defense contractor Anduril, focused on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, partnered with Meta to develop AI-driven augmented reality headsets for the U.S. military.
The defense company announced on May 29 that the headset will integrate Anduril's Lattice platform, an AI-driven information system that organizes tactical battlefield data from various sensors and weapon platforms into a comprehensive information source for soldiers.
