Competition in the AI + Crypto Track

In the AI + Crypto ecosystem on the BASE chain, besides the Virtual platform, there is another platform that has recently gained increasing attention from participants, which is https://creator.bid/.

This platform has actually been around for quite some time; I noticed it around October last year while following Virtual.

However, at that time, the platform's performance was quite average, and I couldn't see anything particularly special about it. Its operations were also not on par with Virtual, and it had not publicly expressed its ideas and vision like the Virtual team did during interviews.

So, my attention quickly shifted away from it.

In April of this year, when Virtual launched the Genesis Launches platform, the Virtual ecosystem became lively again. I looked at other previously active AI platforms (like Solana and zkSync), and they still showed no significant improvement, and this platform's performance was also mediocre.

Until recently, it seems that more and more people on Twitter have started discussing it.

Creator.bid is deployed on multiple EVM chains, but the AI Agents it supports are mostly based on BASE, making BASE its main battlefield.

In addition to creator.bid, there is another ecosystem that is very active on a small scale, which is clanker.world. It is also an ecosystem on BASE.

Compared to these three ecosystems, clanker mainly relies on Farcaster, resembling more of a toy or experiment within a geeky circle, rather than a commercial application.

Creator.bid and Virtual are clearly more application-oriented and aimed at the general public.

One significant difference between Creator.bid and Virtual is that many AI Agents on Creator.bid are related to Bittensor, being specific AI Agent applications on Bittensor's subnet.

There are some articles online comparing the pros and cons of creator.bid and Virtual, emphasizing the transparency of the points system and the flexibility of the penalty mechanism on creator.bid.

However, I believe that even so, its impact can only be short-term. In the long run, whether it is creator.bid or Virtual, the key to their future success lies in cultivating AI Agents that can create value, ideally fostering an ecosystem of AI Agents that can generate value.

In this regard, creator.bid seems to rely more on the operations of Bittensor, while Virtual mainly relies on its own efforts, especially promoting its self-developed ACP.

Regardless of how the development of these platforms/ecosystems ultimately unfolds, one thing is commendable: they have managed to rise again from the collapse of the entire ecosystem at the beginning of the year and attract participants once more.

Their resurgence has not only driven the development of their respective projects but has also propelled the overall development of the BASE ecosystem in AI + Crypto.

This reminds me of Solana, which was the first to rise in the AI + Crypto space, being home to the first AI meme coin and the first AI framework… all born on the Solana platform.

However, after the collapse of the AI + Crypto ecosystem at the beginning of the year, there have been hardly any projects on the Solana ecosystem that have shown significant improvement, and even the Twitter account of the first AI framework project was suspended for various reasons.

Now, the only remaining fruitful application ecosystem in AI + Crypto within the entire crypto ecosystem is found in the Ethereum ecosystem, or more accurately, on BASE.

Faced with this situation, as a participant, should one feel pessimistic or optimistic?

The pessimistic view is that this differs from the previous rounds of DeFi and NFT development, where there were popular projects across multiple blockchains, such as Ethereum, BSC, and Solana, while now there are only popular projects on the BASE chain.

If all these platforms/ecosystems on BASE were to fail, it would mean that all promising disruptive innovative applications in this round of the crypto ecosystem would perish.

On the optimistic side, having several distinct platforms competing and performing together on a single blockchain (BASE) is greatly beneficial for the development of their respective ecosystems.

Generally speaking, projects that can rise from the dead and climb back up from a low point tend to have stronger vitality and a higher chance of success. In the AI + Crypto space, currently, only these few platforms have demonstrated this vitality and potential.

Therefore, based on the current development trend, if the AI + Crypto sector can succeed, it is likely that the ultimate winner will be the ecosystem on the BASE chain.
