Telegram founder Pavel Durov has been granted court approval to leave France for up to 14 days to travel to Dubai, the headquarters of his company in the United Arab Emirates.
According to French news media Le Monde, Pavel will be allowed to leave France on July 10, after his travel request made in May was previously denied by French officials.
The executive had requested to travel to Oslo, Norway, to deliver a keynote speech at the Oslo Freedom Forum organized by the Human Rights Foundation, but due to the rejection of his travel application by French officials, he ultimately delivered the speech remotely.
Pavel had previously been allowed to leave France for several weeks in March and early April to return to Dubai. The TON community views this temporary travel permit as a victory for freedom of speech.
Since then, the Telegram founder has been discussing his ongoing legal cases in the EU, which have drawn close attention from advocates of free speech, privacy enthusiasts, and the crypto community, seen as indicators of personal freedom in Europe and the broader Western world.
In an interview with French news media Le Point on Wednesday, Pavel warned that France is on the brink of social collapse.
He stated, "Emmanuel Macron has not made the right choices." Pavel told Le Point, referring to the French president, "I am very disappointed. France is becoming weaker and weaker."
Pavel indicated that policies supporting censorship and excessive regulation are driving talent away from France to regions that embrace innovation.
He said, "When we delay necessary reforms for too long, we will ultimately experience collapse." He also warned that once a socially designed model permeates one or two generations, changing and repairing the damage may take decades.
