The Netflix series "House of Streams," authorized in the UK and Ireland, will allow online streamers to compete for a Bitcoin.
According to the show's website, eight contestants with a combined total of 4 million followers will appear in this reality series, set to premiere on June 18. Reportedly, the series will have Twitch streamers competing in a series of challenges to win 1 Bitcoin (BTC), which was valued at over $104,000 at the time of writing.
It is currently unclear why the show chose cryptocurrency as the prize for contestants, but the series creator Mark Holland reportedly stated that "…the ultimate reward cannot simply be cash or a trip to the Maldives." The website issued a notice suggesting that some individuals have exploited the show's association with digital assets to issue fraudulent meme coins.
"We support Bitcoin and do not endorse any other meme coins," "House of Streams" stated in a declaration on May 22.
Netflix is no stranger to crypto and blockchain-related programming, having launched documentary series including "Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King," which tells the story of the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange QuadrigaCX. The streaming service announced in May that it had approved the production of "The Altruists," which tells the story of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried and former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison.
As of June 6, the eight contestants in "House of Streams," including The Black Hokage, CyborgAngel, and OutplayedByJade, have not publicly commented on the series.
At least one streamer unrelated to the series reported being attacked due to their cryptocurrency holdings. In March, Kaitlyn Siragusa (known as Amouranth) stated that a group of people broke into her home and demanded cryptocurrency. She had posted a screenshot of her Coinbase account in 2024, showing that she held approximately $20 million worth of BTC at the time.
The attack on Siragusa is just one of several incidents in 2025 where criminals targeted investors or individuals associated with exchanges. In France, a group of attackers reportedly attempted to kidnap and extort the daughter and grandson of Paymium CEO Pierre Noizat.
