The Bitcoin community is calling on Tesla CEO Elon Musk to accumulate Bitcoin as a way to gain an advantage in his ongoing public dispute with U.S. President Donald Trump.
"Elon’s best way to counter Trump is to fully embrace Bitcoin," cryptocurrency trader and analyst Will Clemente stated in a post on X on June 6. On the same day, Samson Mow, founder and CEO of JAN3, expressed a similar sentiment in a post on X: "@elonmusk, it’s time to go all in on Bitcoin."
Mow urged Musk to accept Bitcoin (BTC) payments for Tesla products and adopt a Bitcoin treasury strategy. In 2021, Tesla stopped accepting Bitcoin as a payment method due to environmental concerns. However, the company still holds digital assets. On April 23, Cointelegraph reported that Tesla's digital asset holdings decreased from $1.076 billion to $951 million in the first quarter, a decline of 11.61%.
Mow also suggested that Musk's SpaceX offer launch discounts to customers who pay with Bitcoin.
"Enforce a hard currency standard on the money printer," Mow stated. Previously, Mow told Cointelegraph that it has been three months since Trump signed the strategic Bitcoin reserve executive order, but he has not purchased any additional Bitcoin. He stated that the U.S. "must start" acquiring Bitcoin this year to avoid being outpaced by other countries.
In another comment directed at Musk, Mow added:
"Do it at least before they freeze your fiat assets."
Some Bitcoin supporters speculate that if Musk supports Bitcoin, he would do so without reservation. Boyd Cohen, co-founder and CEO of Lomob, stated: "If Musk becomes a BTC extremist, everything will change in many ways. Anything he does will not be on a small scale."
"He would build or buy the world’s largest BTC treasury, he would accept BTC in all his businesses, and he would join the Bitcoin presidents on the world stage, promoting it as the only path to freedom," Cohen said.
The dispute began after Musk left his advisory position with Trump and called his tax plan "a disgusting and despicable thing" on June 3. The conflict escalated on June 5 after both parties publicly insulted each other on social media. Musk stated that Trump’s global tariff plan "will lead to an economic recession in the second half of this year."
Meanwhile, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that terminating Musk's government subsidies and contracts would save the U.S. government "billions of dollars."
Musk has frequently mentioned cryptocurrency over the years. Recently, on June 2, he stated that his social media platform X is launching a new messaging feature called XChats, which will have "Bitcoin-style encryption."
