Donut Labs, headquartered in New York, has raised $7 million in a pre-seed funding round to develop what it claims to be the world's first "agentic" crypto browser, a tool that uses artificial intelligence to help users interact with blockchain-based applications.
This funding round was led by Sequoia Capital, Bitkraft, and HackVC, with participation from angel investors from Solana and other ecosystem leaders, including Matrix Partners, Sky9 Ventures, Makers Fund, and SonicSVM.
The $7 million will support the development of Donut, an AI-driven executable crypto browser that features a built-in cryptocurrency wallet, decentralized exchange integration, decentralized web access, and on-chain execution capabilities.
Unlike traditional web browsers, Donut's AI algorithms can understand page context and user intent, helping it autonomously execute blockchain-based operations.
Chris Zhu, founder and CEO of Donut, stated, "Traditional browsers have not changed in over 30 years. We are rebuilding everything." He added, "We are reconstructing the front end of the internet to be highly financialized for AI agents."
Donut users will access a range of decentralized tools and crypto services through a single agentic interface, potentially making digital asset trading more secure.
Chris noted, "The architecturally isolated signing environment and AI-driven risk screening ensure the security of each transaction while optimizing execution speed and cost." He also mentioned, "AI translates opaque calling data into simple English and assigns security levels."
Donut's AI agents can conduct token trading or swapping, staking, or earning passive income on digital assets.
While early adopters of Donut are likely to be crypto traders, developers, or decentralized finance (DeFi) users, agentic browsers may enter the mainstream within the next decade.
Chris believes that in the next five years, Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) networks will use agentic browsers to reduce settlement costs. As AI costs decrease, mainstream browsers will also integrate agentic features or establish interoperability with purpose-built agentic browsers.
However, the largest adoption will occur within the next decade, when on-chain and off-chain environments will fully merge for internet users, Chris stated, adding:
"Agentic browsers are expected to become the default entry point—just as smartphones replaced feature phones."
In the long term, Donut aims to support payments, gaming, content creation, and social interaction, all within a native crypto browser. The company also plans to leverage advancements in decentralized identity and confidential computing to transform the browser into a personal "crypto CFO" for retail users.
