Precisely 69,461 accounts were breached, including 217 belonging to Maine residents. The intrusion occurred on Dec. 26, 2024, attributed to what the company termed “insider wrongdoing.”

The breach was officially discovered on May 11, 2025. Coinbase included a template of its notification letter to affected Maine customers in the filing, submitted by “outside counsel” from Latham and Watkins LLP.

This revelation follows mounting apprehension that the breach may precipitate significant repercussions.
