The words of @NTmoney, the founder of 1confirmation, essentially present a reverse narrative challenge—

His point is simple: it’s not about “Can ETH surpass BTC?” but rather:

ETH is already doing what BTC promised to do back in the day, while BTC is stuck on the altar it built for itself.

1️⃣ Who is realizing the vision of “empowering ordinary people”?

Current BTC: The main scenario is value storage and hedging against currency risk. For most people, BTC is something “left untouched,” a store of value.

Current ETH: It has become the “main venue for on-chain activities,” with DeFi, NFTs, stablecoins, DAOs, social networks, and GameFi all running on ETH or its L2.

The vision of “P2P electronic cash” and “trustless financial systems” mentioned in Satoshi Nakamoto's original email is, in fact, more realized by the ETH ecosystem today.

2️⃣ Neutrality vs. Practicality?

BTC’s extreme neutrality: Simple, secure, censorship-resistant, but it hardly adds new features, and Layer 2 development is slow, with functionality stagnating.

ETH’s practical neutrality: Although more complex and with higher operational costs, it is usable and a “progressive neutral platform.”

From a pragmatic perspective, ETH is the “supercomputer” or “iOS” of the Web3 world, while BTC resembles an unattainable supercomputer: secure, stable, a totem; not making mistakes is its super symbol.

3️⃣ Is ETH the “BTC of the new era”?

ETH possesses three attributes:

Programmable (high expressiveness)

Value storage (tending towards deflation under a burn mechanism)

Carrying real demand (stablecoins, lending, NFTs)

While BTC retains its identity as “digital gold.”

Thus, the logic of 1confirmation is:

BTC has become a temple, while ETH has become a tool.

And the reality is that what drives the era is not faith, but implementation.

What’s my view?

I agree with 80% of this perspective: ETH is indeed taking on the responsibilities that BTC had back in the day, and it is doing far more than most people imagine.

However, I disagree with the term “replace”: the differences in the paths of BTC and ETH are so significant that the proposition of “who replaces whom” is outdated.

A more likely scenario is:

BTC is an ultimate value storage system, while ETH is a global settlement and application network.

If ETH is the “operating system,” BTC may forever be that “root key”—rarely used, but indispensable;

On another level, Bitcoin is a religion, the foundation of the crypto world, it is Jesus, it is Buddha!
