On April 15, exchanges such as Binance, KuCoin, and MEXC experienced service disruptions due to a significant network outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Multiple centralized cryptocurrency exchanges (CEX) were affected by the AWS data center failure. AWS reported that at least 12 services experienced "connectivity issues" on April 15.

In an update on April 15, AWS stated: "We have seen initial signs of recovery, but we will continue to monitor and work towards full recovery. Other AWS services are also affected, and we will provide further updates in the next 30 to 60 minutes."

Binance was one of the first exchanges to report service issues.

Binance posted on the X platform: "We have noticed that some services on the platform have been affected due to a temporary network outage at the AWS data center. Some orders are still able to be successfully submitted, but some orders have not been completed. If users encounter issues, please try resubmitting."

Binance has now restored all services, including user withdrawals.

Other major exchanges, such as KuCoin and MEXC, also reported service interruptions.

KuCoin stated in its X post on April 15: "Due to a large-scale network failure of AWS services, our platform is currently experiencing temporary service interruptions."

On MEXC, users of the mobile app and web platform were warned of issues such as "K-line chart anomalies, order cancellation failures," and delays in asset transfers, but the exchange emphasized that users' assets "remain completely safe."

AWS provides cloud infrastructure for centralized exchanges, supporting high trading volumes and low-latency order processing. Some of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges, including Coinbase, Crypto.com, Huobi, BitMEX, and Kraken, utilize AWS services.

This AWS service outage may be seen as another signal of the vulnerabilities of centralized infrastructure providers, as single points of failure can create a chain reaction.
