Aqua Wallet Reveals Upcoming Latam-Focused Integrations

AI summarizes in 5 seconds.

Aqua Wallet, a bitcoin and bitcoin L2-based wallet, will experience a full refactor to better suit the needs of its Latam-based customers. The wallet, which leverages Liquid and Lightning network to make bitcoin and tokens transactions cheaper, is part of JAN3’s strategy of promoting bitcoin adoption both top-down and bottom-up, tackling state nations and solving retail and individual savings issues in emerging markets.

JAN3 CEO Samson Mow announced this on The Bitcoin Podcast, where he stated that due to the $5 million in seed funding the company received in January, they have been able to accelerate the pace and double the size of Aqua’s development team.

“We’ve been working on a refactor of the whole UI to make it more beautiful and more streamlined,” Mow declared, revealing that the development and growth of the wallet have been on full throttle since the capital influx. “It’s getting very hectic right now,” he noted.

As part of these new improvements, Mow announced the integration of several payment methods that will allow users in Latam countries to pay for invoices with a balance in BTC or Liquid USDT. He mentioned Pix, the Brazilian national fast payment system, as one of these systems, but he hinted at more coming in the next few months.

He also commented that the Aqua card, a prepaid, KYC-free Visa card that will be topped up with bitcoin and Liquid USDT, was still in the works.

“I think this is the the focus now to integrate bitcoin with the legacy system because it is still needed like it’s not gone yet,” he assessed, remarking on the relevance of these integrations to their Latam users.

“Our focus has always been on emerging markets and that’s really why we built Aqua to give them the same bank experience as like Venmo or PayPal,” Mow concluded.
