A hacker organization linked to Russia claims responsibility for a large-scale cyber attack on the X platform, which temporarily left thousands of users unable to access the social media platform, although user functions were quickly restored.

Cybersecurity organization SpyoSecure posted on the X platform on March 10, stating that the hacker group Dark Storm had released a statement on its Telegram channel, admitting to the distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, with the statement personally issued by its leader.

SpyoSecure stated: "For anyone wondering why X (formerly Twitter) went down, the answer is that it was attacked by the Dark Storm Team."

The Telegram channel has been deleted for violating platform service terms. Screenshots shared on the X platform show they claimed to have "taken Twitter offline," along with screenshots of connection failures from around the world.

Social media influencer and co-founder of the NFT market NFTz.me, Ed Krassenstein, posted on the X platform on March 10, stating that he was also investigating the attack and had contacted the leader of Dark Storm, who again claimed responsibility for the incident.

Krassenstein stated: "The reason he explained for the attack was simply to demonstrate their power, with no political motives."

The pro-Palestinian hacker group Dark Storm has been active since 2023 and has established connections with Russia, primarily targeting NATO countries.

Platform owner Musk confirmed that the social media platform was attacked on March 10, causing some users to be unable to access the site.

Musk stated in an interview with Fox Business's Larry Kudlow on March 10 that he had a rough idea of the hackers' IP address origins.

"We're not entirely sure what happened, but there was indeed a large-scale cyber attack attempting to cripple the X system, and the attacking IP addresses originated from the Ukraine region."

This incident occurred as Tesla facilities across the U.S. were facing violent events, part of a broader "Take Down Tesla" movement aimed at protesting the government efficiency department (DOGE) led by Musk, which has been cutting back on multiple government departments.

Musk stated during the Kudlow interview that despite facing protests, he still believes they are "doing the right thing," as DOGE is cutting spending on projects that "very few taxpayers find reasonable."

Meanwhile, Tesla's stock price has also been hit hard. In the most recent trading session, Tesla's stock price fell over 15% to $222 per share. According to Google Finance, in after-hours trading, the stock price further dropped by 3% to $215.

Overall, Tesla's stock price has risen 24% over the past year; however, compared to the historical high of $480 set on December 17, 2024, the stock price is still in a downward trend.

This is not the first time the X platform has suffered a DDoS attack. In August of last year, Musk stated that the platform had been hacked before his interview with then-presidential candidate Donald Trump.
