The initiative aims to establish a comprehensive framework that mandates licensing and adherence to anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing regulations. This move, which includes joint supervision by the SFC and the Customs and Excise Department (C&ED), is expected to enhance oversight and attract more investment into Hong Kong’s burgeoning crypto sector. Additionally, discussions are underway to introduce a licensing regime for cryptocurrency custodian services.
