Dubai, actually I don't have much say, I haven't lived in Dubai for a long time, but I have been there many times, so I have some understanding of the prices there. Let's talk about it briefly. In fact, there are many friends on social media who have lived in Dubai for a long time.
First, let's talk about prices. The exchange rate between the dirham and the RMB is almost 1:2, so the prices below are in dirhams. Friends can easily calculate the prices in RMB by multiplying by 2. Let's use Carrefour as the price standard. A 500ml Coke is about 3.5 dirhams, which is one of my favorite price standards. By comparison, it's less than 3 CNY in China, 3 SGD in Singapore, and 15 HKD in Hong Kong.
Next is the fruit. A box of strawberries is about 16 dirhams, around 250g, and blueberries are about 19 dirhams for a similar weight. Apples and bananas are 8 dirhams per kilogram, watermelon is about 3 dirhams per kilogram, cherry tomatoes are 12 dirhams per kilogram. For cooking, a head of cabbage is 8 dirhams, cucumber is 3.5 dirhams per kilogram, green pepper is 5 dirhams per kilogram, corn is 7 dirhams per kilogram, and celery is 3 dirhams per kilogram.
Seafood is quite expensive. I remember tiger prawns are about 50 dirhams per kilogram, and a 200g tub of Haagen-Dazs is 30 dirhams, a bucket of potato chips is about 13 dirhams.
Eating in Dubai is not expensive. Generally, a bowl of Japanese ramen is about 25 dirhams, a set meal is 30 dirhams, and for a more substantial meal, 50 dirhams can get you something nice. Various salads and beef dishes are around 40 dirhams. I saw KFC, and the basic set meal is around 30 dirhams, while the better ones are around 40 dirhams. For a family combo, it's about 100 dirhams. McDonald's is slightly cheaper, but not by much.
Then there's accommodation. There are many standards for accommodation. For example, I heard that near International City, a single room is about 3,000 dirhams, and a two-bedroom is about 4,500 dirhams. If it's a popular area like Dubai Marina and JLT, the monthly rent will exceed 10,000 dirhams. Villas in Dubai are also not cheap, with monthly rents around 8,000 USD, but relatively speaking, buying a house in Dubai is not very expensive. You can get a nice apartment for about 1 million USD (3.5 million dirhams). However, Dubai does not have a residency plan, so stability is not very high.
Although Dubai has duty-free shops, the prices are not low. Prices in Dubai Mall are not low. Compared to Hong Kong, Hermes is probably about 10% more expensive, or even more. The price difference for brands like LV and Chanel is also not small. Eating in the mall is basically 200 dirhams per person. Compared to Hong Kong and Singapore, it's considered cheap, and it's not much more expensive than Shanghai.
As for cars, they are cheaper in Dubai. Both new and used cars are cheaper, especially parallel imports. So you can see a lot of luxury cars in Dubai, and the used car market is not as deep as in the mainland, so you can find good used cars, especially for friends who don't plan to live in Dubai for a long time, used cars are a good choice.
As for nightlife, Dubai is the only city in the Arab world where there is nightlife, I won't say much more. When drinking in Dubai, you must be careful. Don't go drinking with unfamiliar friends or foreigners. As for public security, Dubai's public security has improved somewhat in the past two years, but as a Chinese person, it's best to not flaunt your wealth. If you are a local, white, or even black, you don't need to worry about safety, and of course, if you speak fluent Japanese or Korean, that's fine too. Those who understand, understand, and it's no use saying it to those who don't.
As for education, yes, in terms of education, Dubai has several Chinese schools and some international schools. For Chinese children, going to school is not a problem. The cost of a general international school is about 60,000 dirhams per year, and for well-known national schools, such as Dubai American School, the tuition will exceed 100,000 dirhams per year. It seems to be a bit cheaper than Hong Kong and Singapore, and about the same as Japan.
There's not much else, after all, the time spent there was relatively short, and I didn't learn much.
