Double Jump.Tokyo, A Japanese company focused on developing Web3 gaming projects and providing associated services, has raised over $10 million in the first closing of its Series D funding round. The round, led by SBI Investment, a leading venture capital company in Japan, also had the participation of Sony Group Corporation, a high-profile anonymous entity, and others.
According to a press release, the funds raised in this round will be used to support the development of Web3 and blockchain games and related services and also to “strengthen the company’s organizational structure and talent base,” hinting at a possible expansion.
The involvement of SBI Investment in this round leads to a closer relationship with SBI Group, one of the largest financial consortiums in Japan, through Web3 offerings and non-fungible tokens (NFT) marketplaces. Also, the company mentioned its future involvement in the recently announced “Soneium” project, promoting the development of services and new initiatives on top of this new blockchain.
Kazuhito Hadano, General Manager of the Innovation Fund Office at Sony Group Corporation, highlighted the potential of Double Jump.Tokyo for pushing Web3 gaming tech forward. Hadano stated:
As they continue to grow and solidify their unique position, we anticipate that their technological and development capabilities will help drive the adoption of Web3 across the entertainment industry.
The company is currently focusing on the upcoming release of “Battle of the Three Kingdoms,” a game that leverages Sega’s Sangokushi Taisen franchise. The game was announced in October 2022 as Sega’s first blockchain game, and will reportedly leverage Oasys, a gaming-focused blockchain, for all its Web3 elements and functions.
