Using just 20 lines of code and about $1 worth of electricity, Lopp’s action, intended to draw attention to a testnet flaw he had previously pointed out, resulted in significant disruption for developers testing applications, with some calling his actions harmful and likening it to vandalism. Despite the backlash, Lopp defended his actions as a necessary measure to emphasize the need for changes to the testnet to address its “timewarp” weakness, amidst calls from some in the community for his exclusion from the testnet and labeling him a security risk for Bitcoin.
