Blockchain browser Etherscan launches Web3 IM.

I don't know if everyone has noticed recently, when the market is calm, the "big players" in the Web3 field are expanding their boundaries beyond their core business. Today, Tether CTO Paolo Ardoino announced that they will launch a mobile payment application for USDT and XAUT. On August 8th, Circle released a programmable Web3 wallet platform to help businesses provide digital asset payment services to customers. On August 7th, Etherscan launched the Blockscan Chat mobile app to meet users' Web3 communication needs…

As a newcomer to Web3 chat software, I couldn't wait to evaluate the social product "Blockscan" created by blockchain technology experts, and here is my experience report~

Blockscan is currently in beta testing mode. Users can participate in instant wallet-to-wallet chats, access chats from multiple devices, block spam or unwanted addresses, and receive notifications on the blockchain browser when messages are received.

The first step is to log in, which supports Mac and App platforms, as well as MetaMask, WalletConnect, and Coinbase Wallet. However, when I used Metamask, I received a prompt saying "deep linking not supported," which may be due to regional reasons or compatibility issues. After switching to WalletConnect and retrying several times, I finally connected.

Sending instant messages on Blockscan Chat can be done in two ways: off-chain and free. Some people question its "centralization," but in my opinion, decentralization is just a means, not the end, so there's no need to be too critical. The other way is decentralized chat, which can use the "IDM" feature (data messages).

Regardless of the method used, once the addresses of both the sender and receiver are logged into Blockscan Chat, all messages will be encrypted (except for addresses holding API keys and secure multi-signature addresses).

In terms of personal privacy and data storage, information is stored by "global hosting providers," with servers distributed in multiple regions, and inactive data is deleted after 24 months.

In other words, the storage method is centralized, but the distribution is sufficiently dispersed.

It also points out that this information will not be traded to third parties, but may be disclosed or transferred to data warehouses, IT service providers, and data analysis agencies, among other partners.

According to its terms of service, any user who violates its acceptable use policy (such as providing false, inaccurate, or misleading information) may be prohibited from using some or all of the Blockscan and Etherscan related services.

Recently, a big shot (nd 4.eth) sent 2500 ETH into a black hole for destruction, along with several blue-chip NFTs. Shortly after, fake accounts appeared on X (formerly Twitter) and initiated phishing attacks, but on Blockscan Chat, you can directly use ENS domain names to initiate conversations, meaning only the true owner of the account can be matched for chat. Does this weaken the risk of impersonation in transactions?

In addition, the company also released a small game, allowing users to interact with AI robots and have the chance to win some testnet ETH.

Currently, most users are ENS users. I took the opportunity to send a message to V God (vitalik.eth) and expressed my admiration. However, after sending more than three messages without a reply, the system directly popped up "anti-spam options enabled," which seems quite "human." Chat software has brought convenience to friendships and life, but it has also brought pressure. People almost always have to deal with their relationships with friends, losing the place where they can "escape," especially for those who are not good at handling interpersonal relationships, this is quite terrifying.

This is not just "anti-spam," it's a chance for the soul to breathe.

In summary, Blockscan Chat has a simple and visually friendly interface. Furthermore, it has already launched an API interface, allowing Web3 projects to integrate directly, making it convenient for users to interact. This is especially beneficial for NFT/Gamefi projects, saving a significant amount of development costs and opening up new possibilities for business expansion. It supports anonymous negotiations, providing convenience for white-hat hackers who often need to communicate about attack incidents. It also provides an opportunity for dialogue in NFT transactions, potentially saving transaction fees and bypassing platform transactions (or negotiations).
