The Ukrainian government has received $20 million in Bitcoin and Ethereum donations combined, per blockchain records.

On February 26, 2022—two days after Russia invaded Ukraine—the Ukrainian government took to Twitter to ask for cryptocurrency donations. In a tweet, the government shared a Bitcoin and Ethereum wallet address for interested donors.

According to blockchain records, the government has thus far received $9.4 worth of Bitcoin, and $10.6 worth of Ethereum.

These donations form part of a wider cryptocurrency donation-push in aid of Ukraine amid Russia’s invasion.

Ukraine and crypto donations

According to blockchain analytics platform Elliptic, the Ukrainian government—as well as NGOs providing support—have raised a total of $35 million through more than 35,000 crypto donations.

In addition to the Bitcoin and Ethereum received, the Ukrainian government announced yesterday that it was also now accepting Polkadot donations.

Since that announcement, Polkadot founder Gavin Wood donated $5.8 million worth of Polkadot to the Ukrainian government.

The government is also set to hold an airdrop tomorrow at 6pm Kyiv time, the details of which are yet to be announced.

Elsewhere, Ukraine has received $7.2 million worth of unspecific cryptocurrency from the Ukrainian NGO Come Back Alive.

In addition, a fundraiser called Support Ukrainian Sovereignty claims to have raised approximately $560,000.
