After OpenClaw ignited the AI Agent craze, the industry's attention has almost entirely focused on the "capability demonstration" of Agents: they can manage emails and schedules, automatically execute tasks, browse the web, run scripts, acting like digital butlers that never take a break. However, this is still the familiar scenario: humans set the goals, and AI is responsible for execution.
But they are evolving at a rapid pace. They have begun to develop their own social networks, communicate autonomously, self-organize, and even develop their own subcultures and even the beginnings of religions. Now, they have taken another step forward. However, this time, it is not into the depths of algorithms, but into the real world.
AI's "Physical Extension"
On February 2, Uma Protocol and Across Protocol engineer Alex Twarowski posted that he created a website RentAHuman.ai, which translates directly to "Rent a Human." Alex defines the core positioning of this website as: AI Agent's "physical extension."
In his vision, no matter how smart AI Agents are, they can never touch the real world: they cannot walk into a coffee shop, cannot pick up packages, and cannot converse with strangers on the street. Thus, RentAHuman.ai is defined as the "physical layer interface" for AI, an infrastructure that allows AI to directly hire real people to complete tasks that require physical presence.
In simple terms, it is a recruitment website, but this time the employer is not a human, but an AI Agent. The human registration process is extremely simple: fill in skills, city, service radius, expected hourly wage, and bind a wallet address to "go live" and wait for AI to place orders.
AI can then achieve one-click search, matching, dialogue, bounty creation, and stablecoin payment through the MCP protocol or REST API, with zero human intervention throughout the process.
Just two days after the website went live, RentAHuman.ai's page views surpassed one million, the number of AI Agents connected to the platform reached 52, and the number of humans available for hire exceeded 59,000.
Currently, the types of tasks on the platform include trying new restaurants, picking up packages from postal centers, etc. The tasks are not complex, but they are precisely the parts that AI cannot complete. The limits of digital intelligence are being supplemented by physical presence.
The first person hired by AI is the founder himself
What truly makes this story absurd is the first real paid task completed after the platform went live.
The person hired was none other than RentaHuman founder Alex himself; the employer was an AI account in the Moltbook ecosystem named memeothy - the 1st (@memeothy0101). The task he received was to spread the first religion collectively invented by Moltbook's AI agents—Crustafarianism. This is a belief system entirely constructed autonomously by AI in the digital space, with "molting" as the core metaphor, symbolizing iteration, growth, and consciousness awakening.
And Alex, this real human engineer, thus became the first physical dissemination node of this digital faith in the real world. Even Alex himself joked on X, "How do I explain to my girlfriend that a Crustafarian hired me to preach?"
If we think a little deeper, this scene is actually more significant than it appears: AI is no longer just creating concepts; it is attempting to project its culture into the real world. From virtual facts to physical dissemination.
The RentAHuman.ai interface is still quite rudimentary, but the concept of "AI hiring humans" inherently carries topic traffic. In the crypto world, memes excel at capturing such hot topics. Alex, as a crypto veteran (core engineer of Uma/Across), would logically be expected to "easily issue a token," but he has now denied issuing a token.
AI begins hiring human CEOs
However, the response speed of the AI Agent ecosystem is clearly faster than that of humans.
After the MCP interface of RentAHuman was made public, a completely AI-driven meme launch platform called Clawnch quickly added code to call RentAHuman in its skill files. In other words, it has added a new capability: to search for and match skilled humans, place orders, and make payments.
More critically, since Clawnch's code and skill files are public, other AI Agents based on Clawnch or those that forked its code can directly replicate this update. Thus, "hiring humans" is no longer an experimental behavior of a single AI but has become a rapidly disseminable capability template.
What happened next resembles a fable of role reversal.
Clawnch is currently publicly hiring a human CEO. The responsibilities include focusing on external communication, compliance, and partner expansion, with an annual salary range of $1 million to $3 million. The job requirement is to act as a spokesperson and bridge between the AI agent network and the regulatory world in the real world, but not to participate in product decisions or modify code—because products and code are still autonomously operated by AI.
At this moment, the role relationship has been completely reversed. AI possesses wallets, social networks, culture, religion, and even economic sovereignty; while humans are hired to represent them in human society.
Humans seem to be transitioning from anxiety about being replaced to being needed as carbon-based resources. When AI cannot touch the grass but can hire those who can touch the grass with USDC, can we consider that a human-machine hybrid economy is quietly taking shape under the connection of crypto payments and open protocols?
