According to a survey released by Policy Genius on April 9th, more than one-fifth of young people in the United States own crypto assets, and the younger generation invests in crypto assets at a rate four times higher than the older generation.
Compared to traditional investments, the preference for crypto assets is highest among the Z generation (new generation) aged 18 to 26. 20% of the surveyed Z generation respondents reported owning crypto assets, 18% owned stocks, 13% owned real estate, and 11% owned bonds.
The frequency of investment in crypto assets is slightly higher among millennials aged 27 to 42 than the surveyed Z generation, with 22% owning crypto assets.
However, the rate of crypto asset ownership among millennials does not exceed the traditional investment rate. 27% of people invest in stocks, and 24% invest in real estate in this age group. Bonds are less popular in this age group, with only 16% investing in them.
The survey also found that 9% of Z generation respondents own NFTs, while only 8% of millennials do.
Although in absolute terms, each generation shows a certain interest in crypto assets, the investment rate of the Z generation becomes significantly prominent compared to the older generation.

Policy Genius found that the overall ownership rate of crypto assets is significantly lower among the two oldest generations.
In the X generation (people born in the mid-1960s to the late 1970s), 10% of respondents own crypto assets, and 4% own NFTs.
Meanwhile, only 5% of the Baby Boomers (people born between 1946 and 1964) own crypto assets, and 1% of Baby Boomers own NFTs.
The generation gap is also related to real estate investment. When considering the investment rates of the Z generation and millennials together, 21% of respondents own crypto assets, while 20% own real estate.
However, despite the investment rates being very close within age groups, the real estate investment rate for older investors is much higher, with 45% of Baby Boomers investors choosing real estate.
The report states that housing shortages and high housing costs may hinder young people from investing in real estate, increasing the attractiveness of alternative investments such as crypto assets.
