Web3 is entering "late autumn" ahead of schedule, how should industry builders respond?

Do not blindly believe when the bull market will arrive, as it may become an obstacle on the way forward.

In the past half month, the Web3 industry has undergone some subtle changes.

Well-known blockchain company R3 revealed last week that due to considering the macroeconomic environment, it laid off more than one-fifth of its staff in early September; former Coinbase employees jointly launched the 6-year-old Crypto fund Scalar Capital announced that it would stop investing; the founder of Crypto fund IOSG wrote that the bull market still needs time, the most difficult time has come, and Token2049 may become the last hope for some projects to raise funds.

Of course, the above reports are just some representative news. Some startups have also recently announced temporary exits from the Web3 market to cope with the uncertainty of the bear market.

It is hard to imagine that in the just-ended summer, many institutions were still full of confidence. However, before September was over, they had already begun to prepare for "hibernation." For nature, September is the season of harvest, but it seems to be the beginning of "depression" for Web3.

In a conversation with friends at the beginning of August, the author said, "The real winter is in the next few months, no hotspots, no money, no narrative, no market." It seems to be right on the mark now. However, what we want to discuss today is not the winter itself, but how to deal with it.

As a builder who has experienced two industry downturns, the current situation is still relatively friendly compared to 2018. At least there are still many institutions delving deep into industry narratives, and there are more teams continuing to build than before. So the first task is to remain steadfast. Even if the current stories are all proven false, it is important to remain hopeful for the future. As long as you don't give up, the game is still on.

Secondly, if you are fighting alone, you must find like-minded friends. After all, it is always better to have comrades-in-arms to share hard times with in the winter than to resist the cold alone in late autumn.

Thirdly, if there are doubts about what has been done and the industry's perspective, it is necessary to humbly seek advice from others, expand one's horizons through communication and continuous collision of thoughts, and even generate new ideas. After all, the industry is still in its early stages of development, and many uncertainties can easily lead to a loss of confidence in Web3, which often occurred in the previous downturn.

Fourthly, it is important to timely understand and recognize new industry narratives, especially those seemingly uninteresting but attracting a lot of attention. They may appear to be a kind of revelry in the current situation, but perhaps they will show new momentum in the future.

Fifthly, find some cash flow windows and save expenses to ensure that there is enough reserves when spring arrives. After all, without "food" supplementation, even the most passionate warriors will fall in the cold wind.

Finally, do not blindly believe when the bull market will arrive, as it may become an obstacle on the way forward, just like asking Pinduoduo for help to "cut once," thinking that the next time you can get a red envelope, only to find that the progress bar still has 0.1%. This "0.1%" may become a faint "hope" that exists but cannot be realized in the industry, ultimately leading to distorted decision-making.

The above six suggestions are the author's personal feedback, hoping to provide some reference for builders who are still advancing in the industry in this early autumn.

Of course, to this day, we will not discuss how beautiful the future of the industry is, because living in the present is the most important choice, rather than waiting with expectations.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." We cannot decide how the times themselves are, but we can decide how we view this era.
