[Federal Judge Rejects CFTC and Gemini's Request to Rescind $5 Million Settlement Agreement]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that Bitcoin News posted on the X platform stating that U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein has rejected a joint request by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and cryptocurrency exchange Gemini to rescind a $5 million settlement agreement. The agreement pertains to a proposed Bitcoin futures contract.
In 2022, the CFTC accused Gemini of making false or misleading statements during the regulator's review of the futures product. In January 2025, Gemini agreed to settle the case for $5 million. Subsequently, an internal review by the CFTC concluded that the original complaint should not have been filed, raising doubts about the credibility of key whistleblowers, the strength of the evidence, and the conduct of investigators.
However, the judge ruled that changes in regulatory enforcement priorities and a reassessment of existing evidence were insufficient grounds to reopen the case. The original settlement agreement and permanent injunction remain unchanged.
