[TSMC Insists on Retaining Operational Control of Chip Production in Talks with Musk's Terafab] TSMC is in discussions to collaborate on Elon Musk's Terafab project, but the company has emphasized that it must retain operational control of chip production in any partnership arrangement. When asked whether TSMC would participate in Musk's ambitious chip manufacturing plans, TSMC CEO C.C. Wei stated that the company must be responsible for the operation of its fabs. Previously, Musk had mentioned last week that TSMC could at most lease capacity but would not oversee factory operations. During a conference call, Wei said: 'We are still in discussions. But I want to emphasize that the fabs must be operated by TSMC.' In response to external speculation about TSMC potentially taking part in factory operations, Musk previously stated that Terafab would be fully operated by his own company. Apart from confirming that discussions are ongoing, neither party has disclosed any specific terms of a potential collaboration at this time.
