[Spain Urges Digital Euro Launch to Be Moved Up to 2028 to Reduce Dependence on U.S. Payment Systems]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, the Spanish government has called for the official launch of the digital euro to be moved up to 2028, one year earlier than the current official target of 2029.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated in a competitiveness strategy document submitted to European Council President António Costa that Europe needs to establish a 'sovereign payment architecture.' He also pointed out that the significant growth in financial intermediary activities supported by U.S. dollar-backed stablecoins has increased the urgency of advancing the project.
