Chainalysis analyst warns that encrypted payments for toll fees in Hormuz may involve sanction risks

Kaitlin Martin, a senior intelligence analyst at Chainalysis, stated that shipping companies may face serious sanctions risks if they use cryptocurrency to pay for potential transit fees to Iran. According to the current sanctions framework, any payment made to the Iranian regime, including fees related to critical waterways, may be considered "material support" and violate US and international restrictions. Previously, there were reports that Iran may seek to collect transit fees in the form of cryptocurrency, but this has not been officially confirmed. US President Trump has stated that he will not accept Tehran's imposition of tolls on shipping passing through the waterway.
