Tennessee signs bill to completely ban cryptocurrency ATM operations

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has signed a bill banning the operation of cryptocurrency ATMs throughout the state, becoming the second state after Indiana to implement a comprehensive ban. Bill HB 2505 has come into effect and will be implemented from July 1st. Installing or operating a Bitcoin ATM will be considered a Class A misdemeanor, with a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a fine of $2500. Merchants who allow the device to be installed will also be held legally responsible. Data shows that since 2026, 30 states have proposed relevant legislation, of which 20 states have passed laws.
