BlockBeats News: On December 1st, Justin Drake, a researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, stated in an article on X that four years ago today, the Ethereum Beacon Chain was born. In its initial stage, only 500000 ETH were pledged. Although it did not bring direct benefits to users at the beginning, it gradually grew into one of the strongest foundations in the history of blockchain. Looking ahead, Drake believes that Ethereum has the opportunity to become the settlement layer of the Internet of Value. Although the beacon chain is still imperfect, the road to upgrading in the coming years will be difficult, including improving the review system and MEV processing, reducing pledged deposits, increasing the speed of final determination, intelligent issuance, achieving full chain verification at the smartwatch level, and post quantum security. Meanwhile, outside of the consensus layer, it is hoped to achieve full sharding in the data layer and native Rollup in the execution layer. Drake stated that many improvements to L1 will be gradually released in the coming years, and improvements such as post quantum security may require a comprehensive redesign. The L2 solution will provide significant performance improvements within a few months, including fast user experience, low cost and unlimited throughput, synchronous composability, and more.
