[Vitalik: Slowing Down the Massive Expansion of Computing Power is Overall More Beneficial than Harmful] Odaily Planet Daily reports that Vitalik Buterin, in an article on the X platform, stated that he disagrees with the recent strong negative reaction to the anti-data center movement, believing that slowing down the massive expansion of computing power is generally more beneficial than harmful. Vitalik pointed out that as algorithms continue to advance, AI capabilities that would require even larger data centers in the next two years could potentially be achieved through existing data centers within approximately four years or even less. Therefore, even if the anti-data center movement achieves significant results, it may not necessarily lead to catastrophic consequences. He further stated that the world needs more time to address existing cybersecurity threats and potential future risks such as biosecurity. At the same time, scientific research is constrained by many factors beyond AI, so a one-year slowdown in AI development may result in a much smaller actual delay in scientific progress than one year. He emphasized that this judgment is not based on the controversial AI doomsday theory.
