[US Reportedly Expands Blockade, Seeking to Restrict Iran's Land Trade] Golden Finance reports that on November 8th, following months of maritime blockade against Iran, the US military is forming a special task force to strengthen Washington's efforts to restrict the transport of advanced weapons systems and other sanctioned goods from Tehran via the land border and the Caspian Sea.
According to a statement seen by Reuters prior to publication, US Central Command will announce the formation of this special task force. This task force, named "Task Force Iron Gate," will be based in Tampa, Florida, and will coordinate with other US government agencies. In addition to monitoring weapons shipments, the task force will focus on dual-use items and sources of illicit income.
Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of Central Command, stated in a statement that strengthened cooperation between Central Command and interagency partners will further restrict Iran's ability to finance terrorism, rebuild weapons factories, and replenish its military.
US Central Command estimates that its maritime blockade has prevented Iran from exporting more than $25 billion worth of crude oil.
