[Goldman Sachs: Recent Gold Price Decline Primarily Due to Large-Scale Speculative Liquidation, Not Changes in Real Interest Rates] According to Zhitong Finance, Goldman Sachs analysis indicates that the recent sustained decline in gold prices is primarily due to large-scale speculative liquidation, rather than changes in real interest rates. Data from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission shows that between October 20th and 27th, speculative traders net sold approximately $8 billion in gold positions, with $5.2 billion coming from long position liquidation and $2.8 billion from new short positions. Since September 22nd, the gold market has seen net outflows of speculative funds for five consecutive weeks, accumulating to $19.5 billion. Goldman Sachs points out that between October 20th and 27th, approximately 95% of the outflows came from "other traders" and non-reporting traders, and as of October 27th, these investors' long positions remained higher than the median of the past two years, implying a continued risk of further liquidation.
