[Three Malaysian Banks Report Service Anomalies, No Evidence of Cyberattack] According to a report by Lianhe Zaobao on November 8th, Bank Nasional (BNM), Bank Islam Malaysia (BNM), and Bank Rakyat Malaysia (BNM) reported service anomalies on November 6th, affecting interbank withdrawals, mobile applications, and their official websites, raising concerns about a cyberattack. However, there is currently no evidence that the three banks were attacked, nor can it be determined whether the anomalies are related.
BNM stated that the difficulties with interbank withdrawals were related to high ATM transaction volume; BNM stated that its application had compatibility issues with Android 17; and BNM stated that the website outage did not affect the bank's systems, customer data, or deposit security. PayNet clarified on November 7th that its shared ATM network was operating normally.
Furthermore, according to Coin Bureau citing data from FortiGuard Labs, in the 24 hours ending November 7th, Indonesian banks and financial institutions experienced approximately 214,000 cyber threats, accounting for 61% of all detected threats nationwide. These figures reflect the number of threat detections and do not indicate that the bank has been compromised, nor can they be used to conclude that they are related to the incident in Malaysia.
