[Protests Erupt in Multiple European Countries Demanding Halt to Data Center Construction]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that a wave of protests against data center construction is spreading across Europe. On Saturday, local time, people in several countries took to the streets to express their concerns about the energy consumption, environmental damage, and social impact of the rapid expansion of data centers.
It is reported that more than 100 NGOs and advocacy groups from 15 European countries participated in this joint action, protesting the rapid expansion of energy-intensive data centers and calling for a halt to all new large-scale data center projects until clearer regulatory frameworks are established.
Approximately 2,000 people marched in Dublin on Saturday, and about 1,300 people rallied in Helsinki. Similar demonstrations were also held in several smaller towns in Finland. The coalition "Stop Dirty Data Centers," comprised of local democracy and climate protest groups, stated that the action aims to "stop the unchecked expansion of AI data centers and prevent our democratic institutions from being hijacked by the interests of large technology companies." From Scotland to Spain, from France to Denmark, environmental and social activist groups have also joined the action, calling for a halt to data center construction.
