The US has established Task Force "Iron Gate" to further restrict Iran's land and Caspian Sea transport.
The US Central Command announced the formation of Task Force "Iron Gate," a team of approximately 20 personnel based in Tampa, Florida. Its primary responsibility is to coordinate with other US government agencies to prevent the flow of advanced weapons, dual-use technologies, sanctioned goods, and illicit income through Iran's land borders and the Caspian Sea.
Previously, the US had already blockaded southern Iranian ports, restricting ship access. According to US military estimates, this maritime blockade has prevented over $25 billion worth of Iranian crude oil exports.
The US established this task force to further restrict these channels, making it more difficult for Iran to obtain weapons, production equipment, and income, and consequently, to rebuild its war-damaged military capabilities.
For Iran, oil revenues are already under significant pressure. If remaining trade and financial channels are also restricted, the cost of imported goods could rise further, and fiscal and foreign exchange pressures will continue to increase.
Regarding oil prices, although I'm currently shorting, I don't believe it's a blind approach. While the Democrats have plans to resolve the US-Iran conflict, this is unlikely to happen until next year at the earliest. Trump still has considerable influence over the war's trajectory, for example, by squeezing Iran's living space.
From a third-party perspective, Trump's actions aren't entirely meaningless. Iran is indeed facing significant internal conflicts: rising inflation, increasing prices, and currency devaluation. Trump hopes to force Iran to back down quickly, and this quarantine is also intended to strengthen external support for Iran.
I actually think Iran will retaliate more strongly, but militarily, there's not much Iran can do. This is different from influencing oil tankers in the Hormuz. I don't think Iran has a high chance of winning a localized direct conflict. The real fear is that Iran might act without restraint; for example, there were reports last month that Iran might use chemical weapons.
Today, my oil profits dropped from over 35% to less than 1%.
