[Bitcoin Core Developer Proposes Quantum Attack Collateral Solution] According to a report by BeInCrypto on November 7th, Bitcoin Core developer Cory Fields proposed a "quantum mine" solution, using a collateral mechanism to increase the cost for future quantum attackers to steal Bitcoin from old wallets. The proposal states that transferring Bitcoin vulnerable to quantum attacks would require additional collateral and a waiting period; the legitimate holder could then retrieve their assets and obtain the attacker's collateral by presenting a pre-prepared secret proof of ownership within the waiting period. The report notes that because the blockchain cannot distinguish between attackers and legitimate holders, the latter would also need to provide collateral when transferring such Bitcoin; for dormant assets whose private keys have been lost, Fields also proposed an auction mechanism that can be challenged. This solution remains a proposal and is not yet an implemented network rule.
