[US Treasury Sanctions 8 Canadian Money Services Companies Involved in Iran, Offers Up to $20 Million Reward for Information on Nuclear Program] Odaily reports that the US Treasury Department has announced financial sanctions against eight Canadian money services companies, stating that these companies conducted business with sanctioned Iranian entities and facilitated the exchange of Iranian rials and other currencies for digital assets. The US Treasury Department stated that these companies assisted sanctioned Iranian digital asset exchanges and digital asset addresses linked to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in conducting transactions. The sanctions will restrict these companies' access to the US dollar financial system. Some of the entities involved also evaded detection by changing their names and addresses. The operation was coordinated with the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC). US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that Canada cannot be a safe haven for illicit financial intermediaries providing sanctions circumvention services to the Iranian regime and its proxies. The US Rewards for Justice program is also offering a reward of up to $20 million for information on facilities, equipment, and personnel related to Iran's nuclear program, and providing possible resettlement arrangements.
