🇺🇸 LATEST: Former FBI agent pleads guilty to stealing $2.47 MILLION in crypto using wallet credentials the bureau collected in 35 investigations. U.S DoJ confirms that Patrick Steven Yaroch used his access to FBI systems to make roughly 100 unauthorized transfers, taking crypto from wallets controlled by suspects and foreign adversaries. He even stole from a wallet the FBI had set up for one of its own operations. Yaroch laundered the proceeds to pay credit card bills, car payments and other debts. He also asked ChatGPT where to live in Europe. After it suggested buying a vineyard in Portugal, he authorized Portuguese lawyers to obtain a tax ID for him and made travel plans. Yaroch pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering. He faces up to 20 years in prison at his March 4, 2027 sentencing.
