The next trillion-dollar growth point in the crypto world is DeFi lending USDC using US stock tokens as collateral.
Currently, truly implemented products revolve around Coinbase Stocks: Coinbase issues the tokens; Aave and Morpho provide lending; Chainlink provides price feeds; Aerodrome, 0x, and 1inch provide liquidity; Bitwise manages assets.
Aave's Coinbase Stocks market launched at the end of September. In just over a month, it held $15.43 million in collateral on-chain and lent out 6.78 million USDC from 742 addresses.
The collateral consisted of eight US stock tokens: AAPLC, AMZNLC, GOOGLLC, METALC, MSFTLC, NVDALC, TSLAC, and SPCXLC.
The collateral ratio ranged from 55% to 79%, lending was limited to USDC, and it was only open to regions outside the US stock market.
Morpho also connects to Coinbase Stocks, with 4... There are several targets, with both floating and fixed interest rates.
It doesn't sound like much, right? But that precisely illustrates the enormous potential.
The US stock market is a multi-trillion dollar market. Let's say it's 60 trillion. Currently, only 15 million units are being used as collateral on the blockchain—not even a fraction of that.
Even if only 0.01% is brought up, that's $6 billion in collateral. Even if Coinbase Stocks only takes 70%, that's over $4 billion, more than 260 times the current amount.
That's what you call early-stage.
