[ByteDance Plans to Expand Brazilian Data Center Project] According to Jinse Finance on November 7th, ByteDance is considering expanding its data center project in northeastern Brazil, a move that would further solidify the company's position as a leading builder of computing facilities in Latin America.
Sources familiar with the matter revealed that ByteDance is seeking a developer to undertake the second phase of its data center project in Puerto Pessen, an industrial port in Ceará state. ByteDance can enjoy tax breaks for data exports in this project.
Sources stated that the expansion will be larger than its current $10 billion, 300-megawatt project under construction in Ceará state. ByteDance is also in preliminary talks with a developer regarding a similarly sized data center outside of Puerto Pessen, which will serve local Brazilian clients. The Puerto Pessen data center, however, requires data exports to qualify for tax-free treatment.
