Blockstream published an article stating that Bitcoin can address future threats from quantum computing by introducing new signature schemes. Their research team is evaluating the application of lattice-based signatures in Bitcoin. The study compared Dilithium, Falcon, and Hawk, concluding that if a lattice-based signature scheme must be chosen currently, Falcon-1024 offers the best balance between size, verification speed, and the maturity of security assumptions. However, this scheme still faces limitations such as the lack of a finalized standard, hardware wallet memory requirements, and the lack of feasible public key derivation schemes. The team emphasized that using hash-based signature schemes for Bitcoin in the short term remains a more conservative choice, and a hybrid deployment with lattice-based schemes could be considered in the future.
