Why did the People's Bank of China (PBOC) investigate and ban Solana's promotional activities in China? The core reasons boil down to three points and one core logic: First, it crossed the line of "brand equals marketing." The PBOC's stance is clear: Solana issues a virtual currency and provides technical services for USDT. These are all illegal financial activities within China. Solana's advertising and events in Lujiazui, even if they only talk about technology, are essentially marketing and promoting illegal financial activities. Second, it targets "domestic accomplices." Solana is a foreign platform, but the advertising was placed by domestic entities, and the events were organized by a domestic team. The PBOC's explicit investigation of "involved entities and individuals" focuses on dismantling those domestic entities that market and operate on behalf of foreign projects. Third, it serves as a warning to others. Solana's high-profile entry into Shanghai led many to believe that policy would be relaxed. The central bank has swiftly and clearly stated its position: stop guessing, the red line remains unchanged, and this time it's serious. However, the core logic behind China's strict ban on cryptocurrency trading and promotional activities has remained constant: to safeguard the nation's financial security. The decentralized, borderless, and anonymous nature of cryptocurrencies makes them highly susceptible to becoming channels for money laundering, illegal fundraising, and capital flight. A large-scale liberalization would allow domestic funds to flow out in "invisible ways," directly impacting foreign exchange controls and the stability of the financial system. Given this bottom line, any "technical narrative" from overseas public blockchains is meaningless. Solana's Shanghai office will certainly be shut down, and the domestic person in charge of organizing this event will be held accountable. Let's wait and see!
