[Democratic Grassroots Oppose Jeffries' Speakership; Representatives' Offices Receive Numerous Opposition Calls] According to a report by Golden Finance on November 7th, citing Axios, several Democratic lawmakers and their aides stated that they have recently received numerous calls and emails urging them not to support House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker of the House. Some offices received over 500 opposing calls in two days. Opponents criticize his perceived lack of resistance to the Trump administration, his close ties to pro-Israel organizations, and are pushing for progressive Representative Jamie Raskin to succeed him. A related petition has garnered nearly 900,000 signatures. However, Jeffries remains the frontrunner for Speaker, and no one within the party has explicitly stated their willingness to challenge him. The Democratic leadership election is scheduled for November 18th and 19th, and the new Congress will elect the Speaker of the House on January 3rd of next year.
