The latest non-farm payroll data shows a strong US economy and a lower-than-expected unemployment rate, significantly increasing the probability of a US interest rate hike in December.
However, this information is lagging. Oil prices have plummeted for several days. The interest rate hike is intended to curb inflation; the state of the economy is not the basis for the decision. As long as the CPI doesn't rise, the Federal Reserve can tolerate low interest rates if the economy is doing well, because the White House also wants low interest rates. Every 1% reduction in interest rates means the US government will save hundreds of billions of dollars.
The biggest recent positive factor is oil prices, but the fundamental issue of oil prices—the US-Iran conflict—remains unresolved. The market is worried that oil prices will continue to rise. The market truly needs two positive factors:
1. Substantial progress in US-Iran peace talks; 2. Significant profit increases for AI companies, especially B2C companies with better-than-expected revenue.
