🚨NFP WATCH: The midterms shook the AI trade. Now stock and crypto investors are watching today’s U.S. jobs report for clues on a December Fed hike.
The report drops SOON at 8:30 AM ET.
The Nasdaq fell 5.52% Thursday, and Bitcoin slipped below $77,000. Treasury yields hit their lowest since early September as December hike odds fell to 68%.
WHAT TO WATCH:
1. JOBS: 65K expected, up from 29K in September.
2. WAGES: Annual growth is expected to fall below 3% for the first time in nearly 5½ years.
3. UNEMPLOYMENT: Barclays says a drop to 4.1% would keep a December hike in play.
Wages could matter MOST.
A STRONG hiring and hot wages could revive hike bets, push yields and the dollar higher, and pressure U.S. stocks, especially tech, alongside Bitcoin.
A SOFTER report could ease rate fears and give stocks and crypto some room to rebound.
Goldman still expects a December hike.
Schwab’s Liz Ann Sonders says it would likely take a much WEAKER jobs report for the Fed to hold again.
