Late that night, after the Nasdaq plunged 6%, the Oval Office of the White House was brightly lit and bustling with people. To demonstrate the power of a lame-duck president and to salvage his plummeting approval ratings, Trump called the CEOs of the seven major US stock exchanges one by one, summoning them all to the Oval Office. Trump slammed a trillion-dollar bailout bill on the table: "Nobody's leaving tonight without your seven names! Anyone who doesn't sign is a traitor!" "I'll sign," Musk said, leaning back in his chair and pointing across from him. "But I have a condition: Cook has to sign first. Apple has hundreds of billions in its accounts; don't just drink your lousy coffee." Cook put down his cup: "You need to bring your lousy Tesla stock back up before you talk to me. Also, how do you account for your criticism of Apple on X last night?" Musk stood up abruptly: "Say that again?!" "Alright! Stop arguing!" Jensen Huang, pulling at his black leather jacket, tried to smooth things over. "Nvidia is leading the charge, adding another 50 billion in AI investment! Isn't that enough sincerity?" Just as Trump was about to praise him, Microsoft's Satya Nadella pushed up his glasses and slowly remarked: "Huang, this 50 billion... in the end, does Microsoft still have to pay for your graphics cards?" The whole room burst into laughter. Jensen Huang's face flushed red, but he stubbornly retorted, "Aren't you all always complaining about a lack of computing power?!" Suddenly, the door was pushed open. Gina, the newly elected young governor of Texas, walked in, her high heels clicking on the floor: "Mr. President, I absolutely support you! I've already tweeted my support!" Trump's eyes lit up: "Great! Then can the ridiculous ban on building AI data centers in Texas be lifted?" Gina smiled broadly: "Lift it? Of course not. I support the bailout, but I just signed a document stating that to protect Texas's water resources, no more data centers will be allowed." Trump's face turned green. Zuckerberg cursed: "Is this a bailout or a pipe-pulling operation?" And the most outrageous thing was yet to come. On the televisions in the White House corridor, two utterly surreal scenes were playing live: On one side, Pelosi, nearly bankrupt from losses, tearfully shouted on CNN: "Technology can't fail! We must save the market!" (Her heavily invested Intel options were about to go to zero; a market bailout was her lifeline.) On the other side, Schumer announced at the Capitol: "To protect all of humanity, next month we will pass legislation to completely ban advanced AI development! Unplug AI!" Musk glanced at his phone, then slammed it on the table in anger: "Schumer is unplugging the power outside, Pelosi is cheering us on outside, and you've locked us up here signing a bailout agreement? Are you playing with monkeys?!" "Shut up, all of you!" Trump slammed his fist on the table. "Sign it first! Take a picture first! If the market goes up tomorrow, we're heroes!" The next day, before the market opened, Trump posted a historic group photo. Seven CEOs surrounded him, each forcing a smile. The caption read: "Historic agreement reached! American technology is invincible!" Pre-market futures surged 2%. Retail investor groups exploded, flooding the screen with shouts of "Bull market back! Buy the dip!" However, ten minutes before the market opened, Wall Street obtained a leaked copy of the original agreement. Next to the signature was a tiny line of text: "This is only an agreement in principle to further discussions and does not contain any actual funding commitments." Schumer immediately submitted the "AI Pull-the-Line Act." Nasdaq officially opened. Three minutes later, a second circuit breaker was triggered. The top trending topic on social media: "Those trying to save the market didn't spend any money, those in charge are pulling the plug, those who have lost everything are cheering, only retail investors' accounts have bled dry."
